What is mStat?

mStat is a free menu bar system monitor for macOS. Its full panel shows CPU, memory, disk, battery and network status. No account is required.

Version
2.0.2
Compatibility
macOS 15 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Menu bar
Choose one to three readings from CPU, memory, network and battery, reorder them by dragging, and pick from four display styles. Disk information is available in the full panel.
Refresh and power saving
Readings refresh every second by default. Power saving changes the closed-panel interval to 30 seconds; the open panel still refreshes every second. Disk is read every 60 seconds and battery updates are event-driven.
Data and privacy
System metrics are processed locally. The public IP lookup contacts third-party services. The app has no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking SDKs; website analytics requires separate consent.
Download
Download for free from the Mac App Store. Macs without a built-in battery hide the battery module.

The monitoring panel and settings window on this page are interactive demonstrations. Their readings are simulated and do not access your device. The app supports ten languages; this website is available in Chinese and English.

CPU, memory, disk, battery and network monitoring.

Each one is drawn the way the app draws it, with readings computed live and shared with the panel at the top of this page.

CPU12 cores, 60 samples of history

Usage updates live alongside the user and system split, with a smoothed line covering the last minute. Per-core load is grouped into efficiency and performance cores, so you can see at a glance which half is working.

Used capacity and memory pressure side by side. The App, Wired and Compressed segments are scaled to their real share, so they add up to the used figure — nothing to reconcile.

Usage and free space are shown separately. When space runs short the bar and the icon both move to a warning state: colour never carries the message on its own.

Charge, charging state, time remaining and cycle count. On power the bar turns green and shows the time to full. Macs without a built-in battery hide this row and let the disk take the full width.

The same glass base, the same continuous corner radii, the same data colours. Menu bar display, appearance and language, and general all sit on one page — and every change shows up right away.

General

Display
Tick up to three, drag the tags below to reorder them, then pick one of four styles. The status item in the menu bar above follows straight away — that bar and this window are wired together.
Appearance
System, light and dark are all clickable. Choose dark and the whole site follows.
Language
Ten languages, set by hand. Click here and this site switches to the other one.

A mock of the settings window, and a clickable one: items, order, style, appearance and language take effect on the page straight away.

More insight, fewer interruptions.

Living in your menu bar should cost nothing. Here is where mStat stands on that.

Your data stays on your Mac
CPU, memory, disk, battery and local network statistics are all read and shown on your Mac. The one external request is the public IP lookup, where the provider sees your public address and standard request metadata. Privacy Policy
Refresh follows the situation
Once a second by default, even with the panel closed, so the readings in the menu bar are always current. Switch on power saving and the closed-panel interval becomes 30 seconds, while opening the panel still snaps back to every second.
Motion can be switched off
Bar and status-icon transitions are light, appear only when a value actually changes, and follow the system's Reduce Motion setting. Low Power Mode and power saving switch them off as well.
Ten languages, following the system
Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. You can also pick one by hand in Settings; a restart applies the change.

Show Mac CPU and memory in the menu bar
Use a menu bar monitor for an at-a-glance view of Mac CPU and memory. Use the built-in Activity Monitor to find which app is using resources. The two work well together.
Compare mStat, Stats and iStat Menus
Do you need CPU, memory and network readings in the menu bar, or GPU data, temperature sensors and notification rules? mStat, Stats and iStat Menus cover different needs. A free app is not necessarily a replacement for every advanced feature.

Frequently asked questions

Not finding it? Write to [email protected], or see the support page for more.

Is mStat a free Mac system monitor?

Yes. Download mStat for free from the Mac App Store, with no mStat account required. Show one to three CPU, memory, network or battery readings in the menu bar, and disk space in the full panel. It requires macOS 15 or later.

Which Macs does mStat support?

macOS 15 or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel. It is a menu bar app and takes no space in the Dock.

How do I open the full panel?

Left-click the mStat status item in the menu bar to open the panel, right-click for the app menu. The panel closes itself once it loses focus.

Can I choose what the menu bar shows?

Yes. The Menu Bar section in Settings lists CPU, memory, network and battery. Pick up to three and drag the tags to set their order. There are four styles: icon only, icon + value, two-line compact and mini chart.

How often does it refresh?

Once a second by default, whether the panel is open or not, so the menu bar is always current. Turn on power saving and the closed-panel interval becomes 30 seconds; opening the panel still snaps back to every second.

Is any of my data uploaded?

CPU, memory, disk, battery and local network statistics are read and shown on your Mac. The public IP in the interface needs one HTTPS request to a third-party IP service; the address it returns is only ever displayed.
